I think most of the negativity in road tubeless comes from trying to use some form of conversion kit. While conversion kits provide flat protection and mostly work, they don’t provide as good a fit between the rim and tire. At the higher pressures of road riding that fit is important. Road tires and rims have round beads for non-tubeless and square beads for tubeless. This can be confusing because for mountain and cross tires the bead shape has stayed the same for tubeless and non-tubeless. This along with the lower pressure makes conversion kits more dependable. For the maximum benefit of a tubeless system and less risk use tubeless rims and tires.
